Drag Me to Hell
Dir: Sam Raimi
Cert:12A
I was more than satisified with this film. As a fan of Raimi's Evil Dead films (no really, I love them) this gave me just what I wanted out of him. Sure, this is not the greatest horror ever, or even the greatest of the past five years - but it is a lot of fun, providing all the jumps you need and a decent B-Movie plot.
The standout performance of the whole film, which is why I was so satisfied, is Raimi's directing style. He pays homage to his own, earlier horror works on several occassions and it is great to see that his skill has improved over the years to the point where he can deliver a jump and sustain terror using the simplest of devices. His trademark 'noises', playful shadows and rattling as things move around a room prove him to still be top of the game when it comes to 'being haunted' type horror.
The acting is not amazing and the story I suppose is somewhat predictable, but for someone who enjoys pointing out references to other films this is a laugh. And, if your date is up for it, I'd recommend this as a date movie - it's lightweight enough for friendly banter afterwards while scary enough to throw yourselves into each others' arms.
7/10

I enjoyed this the other day, as you say it has plenty of the spook-factor in and definitely made me jump a couple of times, which is quite rare for me - my friend was hidden under her coat in terror!
I thought it got a little bit silly towards the end, Chris seemed to have a personality transplant and go from a sweet girl to some ghetto kid, the dialogue went all wrong. But maybe that's what being terrorised by Lamia will do to you, I wouldn't know.
Yep, 7/10. Good old fashioned horror with a few twists.
