This is a another cash-in film from "The Asylum" production company. They specialise in copying what mainstream Hollywood does, but on a budget.
For example they had a title out at Xmas called "The Day The World Stopped". Not to hard to work out which big release they were cashing in on!
They are also the place were certain actors from film and cinema go to die. C Thomas Howell, Timothy Bottoms appear in their products.

As for their films, some are quite cheap and innovative. They did a version of "War Of The Worlds" which was quite good, despite its budget.
However, most of their work is simply painful to sit through.
