Hi to everybody...BBC4 are showing now one of the original Batman series....I realized why I never bothered with it...it's absolutely awful...HLOL...have seen a couple of the latest Batman films and, while not overly enthusiastic about either, they are a millions times better than the originals...still not sure whether I'm going to see the latest as it costs us quite a bit to go to our local cinema now because we have to take taxis there and back as there are no buses to it...think I'll wait for it to come on TV...we're waiting for Hellboy2, which should start its run at the beginning of August...now that we're both looking forward to seeing...

Perhaps because it was the last film Heath Ledger was in before he died. And possibly it could be better than the first!
I have yet to see both but like to!

I suspect the Heath fans of rigging the votes, to be honest.

Well they say it's taken more at the Box Office in its premiere showings, but then ticket prices have shot up since the Godfather's day so it's difficult now to judge what the true top earner has been nowadays....

IMDB uses marks out of 10 as a measurement rather than takings, so more voters have rated TDK more highly than Godfather.
The highest earning film of all time by quite a long way is Titanic. Adjusted for inflation, Gone With The Wind just pips Titanic.
And back on the original Batman series again, I was just trying to express my personal opinion that it wasn't awful, just very different. For a 1960s children's comedy TV series, I think it still holds up pretty well, but I know nostalgia is colouring my view!

I never follow these ratings...glance at them in passing rarely...and yes, I realise that about your comment on the original Batman series...I can remember seeing Captain Africa on Saturday morning pics...loved it but, if I saw it now, I'd probably feel the same as I do about the old Batman...LOL...

I'm not talking about the first Batman film, I was talking about the really old original series on TV...as Tom pointed out they're chalk and cheese...LOL...one's definitely for kids and the other's aimed at an adult/youth audience so has much more explicitly violent scenes...in the original series you got big words written across the screen giving you the sound of a fist hitting the baddy....HLOL...like SPLAT in bright yellow lettering...hilarious...

Yes, I know they're very different...HLOL...I was just saying after being reminded how awful it was, I now recall why I didn't bother to watch the original series...used to go to Saturday morning pics when I was young so never watched TV and didn't even have one until I was sixteen....

The original series is a different sort of thing entirely. It was fully intended to be camp, silly, funny and for children. The films are most definitely aiming at a very different market and have vastly different production values and are very dark. Apples and Oranges. I'm very fondly attached to the original series as it used to be on the telly on Saturday mornings when was a kid and I never missed it.
I'll probably skip the film. One fascinating thing though: the number 1 film at IMDB has been The Godfather pretty much forever, but The Dark Knight has knocked it off the top spot. That's an astonishing achievement, but I do expect it to slip down again over time.
