My gf and I couldn't even make it all the way through this last night. We got as far as just past the fight in the coliseum before finally switching off. the problem? Well, as my significant other so brilliantly put it last night: "He jumps around places, so what?". For 90% of what we saw of the film it's just the lead guy jumping places without reason - and i say without reason because the film establishes that a jumper can only go somewhere they've already been, then leaves it for us to assume he's been to Egypt etc etc
Actually, the film goes further in a bank robbery scene when the jumper jumps into a bank vault because he saw inside it earlier in the day. So as long as he has been in visual range, he can jump there. Then there's no explanation for how he manages to control the reverberations from his jumps... i could go on but this is not a film of explanations or logic or for that matter characters.
The hot one out of The OC is in this as a bit of eye candy, the jumper has to fly her to Rome though before he gets to sleep with her. Obviously not all hotties are easy. She has no character though, she just goes along with him for the meal ticket apparently, knowing something is amiss when he gets his ass kicked behind a locked door but not questioning it because she might not like the answer. The kid out of Billy Elliot is here too, along with Samuel L Jackson (whose career seems to have gone all John Travolta of late) as respectively "the bloke who knows it all" and "the bloke who kills them all".
"only god should have the power to be in all places at once" is one of Sam's more striking lines, but also one of the more inane as the jumpers can only ever be in one place at a time, like everyone else. Sam also like to pontificate on consequences, yet there dont appear to be any consequences of his murders. Funny that.
the fights? rubbish. The jumpers jump so fast from place to place you cant tell who's fighting who or where. The visual effects looked better when they were used in The Butterfly Effect, seriously. I doubt i'll make it to the end of this film.
PS: Hayden Christensen, he's at least as bad in this as in Attack of The Clones.
