Hi to everybody...we went to the cinema to see 'Pan's Labyrinth' and watched spellbound for its entirety. Guillermo Del Toro, the director, has excelled himself in the making of this outstanding film. The young girl, who is the main character, caught up in the cruelty and savagery of war, is entirely lacking in tweeness, she is lovely, sad, fearful, at times petrified with good reason, and her hapless mother and brutal step father make her life a living nightmare, which ends in a shocking outcome. Throughout the film, a fantasy world is created by her in an attempt to survive what is going on around her, but is, in the end, insufficient to protect her.
A wonderful film that I cannot recommend enough...big hugs to one and all....

It certainly was disturbing in parts but a huge step above the rubbish churned out now as entertainment by Hollywood, so glad it got a showing over here...Guillermo del Toro's other films are well worth a look as well...The Devil's Backbone, Cronos, Mimic, and of course, Hell Boy and Hell Boy 2..not out yet...LOL...to mention only five of his extensive film career...big hugs....

Me and hubby went to the flicks to watch this with my eldest son and all groaned when we realised it was subtitled however all of us thought it was excellent if a little creepy at times- brilliant actually. Sad though

Can't stand dubbed films...usually don't bother if a film is dubbed...the actors belong to their voices and it enhances the film a million times I think if they're allowed to and subtitles are added...particularly Asian films...so peculiar listening to a brilliant Japanese or Korean film for example ruined by western accents...LOL...just personal choice of course...and yes, it was very sad...cried at the end...big hugs...

Do you watch many Italian films? Most of them are dubbed, in Italian, relatively badly, purely because it's easier to record the sound separately. Usually i hate dubbing but it adds a certain charm to Italian cinema and is definitely part of the fun with old kung fu movies.

Over the years, we've seen quite a few but rarely watch dubbed foreign films if we can avoid it, because it ruins the film completely for us...the actors and actresses suit their voices and language and to stick darned American or English voices on top just makes it sound ridiculous half the time...and yes, it can be funny for old Kung Fu movies, but again, still prefer, subtitles in all foreign films....

i thought it was amazing - much better than the similar film from the same director: The Devil's Backbone.

Ah, no, I really liked 'The Devil's Backbone'...it was a completely different film with a very different atmosphere...I thought it was excellent...but we all dance to a different tune...
Have you seen 'Cronos'? That again is very different...I like Del Toro because he's doing something interesting and that makes a change in today's film world...-

yeah, seen em both

Hi Jen! So happens, I saw this movie recently. Quite disturbing in parts. Not, myself, totally convinced, the fantasy sequences worked. Slightly self indulgent I thought. At times no more than clever distraction. That said my view's your own. A wonderful film. Well worth a look. James.
